In the rapidly growing 27-year-old chareidi town of Beitar Illit, near Yerushalayim, a committee has named many of the town’s new streets after gedolei Yisroel and wives of gedolei Yisroel.

Most of the newly named streets are located on the third, newest hill of the neighborhood where the government has issued permits to build hundreds of new apartments and where the municipality hopes to receive a thousand more building permits once President-elect Trump takes office.

Gedolim commemorated by new streets include Rav Aharon Kotler, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, Rav Ovadiah Yosef, Rav Yitzchak Kaduri and the Bostoner Rebbe.

  1. Is it a kavod or a bizayon to name a street after a Gadol. I can’t imagine Rav Aaron or Rav Eliyashuv agreeing with this. Did anyone ever ask them rishus, while they were still alive?

  2. How can having a street of Torah observant families named after one, be a bizayon?I think it’s a great kavod, ken yirbu !
