mishloach-manos11The Belzer chassidus in Eretz Yisroel is urging people to cut back this Purim in light of the financial crisis. In addition, so that Belzer Chassidim will save money, they have been told not to send mishloach manos to their in-laws and their families. These recommendations will be publicized on posters and other materials distributed in the Belzer kehillos

As has been reported the past few days, the Sefardishe rabbonim in Eretz Yisroel, including Chcham Ovadiah Yosef, have urged the public to cut down on mishloach manos, also citing the dire financial situation in the country. A statement published yesterday and signed by a number of Sefardic rabbonim, including Rav Yosef, former chief rabbi Rav Eliyahu Bakshi Doron and current chief rabbi Rav Shlomo Amar, stated:

“We warmly call on our yirei Shomayim to avoid unnecessary spending when preparing Purim baskets filled with sweets and pastries, and to narrow down such needless expenses as much as possible.”  The rabbonim wrote that “precisely at a time like this, when we are facing a difficult financial crisis… one must refrain from wasting money on costly Purim gifts.”

  1. All groups should come out with the same decision, it pays to include siblings, parents, etc. in the same NO MM unless there is a reason for a needed reconciliation……
