Monday night’s game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals was suspended after Bills safety Damar Hamlin was placed on a stretcher and taken from the field in an ambulance after collapsing on the field in a frightening scene during the first quarter. Hamlin is in critical condition, the NFL said.
Medical personnel rushed to treat Hamlin as players on both teams gathered nearby on the field. Members of the medical staff administered CPR to Hamlin and he was given oxygen, according to ESPN, which was broadcasting the game.
Players were originally told they would be given five minutes to warm up after the ambulance left Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. After coaches Zac Taylor and Sean McDermott conversed, officials quickly reversed the decision and players retreated to their locker rooms.
Hamlin was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s emergency room, which is the area’s level one trauma center, according to local television station WLWT.
Outside their locker rooms, Bills and Bengals players shook hands and hugged one another, according to ESPN’s broadcast, a sign that the game probably would be postponed.

Or at the end of a game if the winning team wants to burn the clock (not give other team a chance) the quarterback will often take a knee and run 40 seconds off the clock. This avoids the risk of interceptions or fumble…
