bennet-visitingHabayit Hayehudi Chairman Naftali Bennett visited the yeshivas of Mir Yerushalayim and Chevron-Givat Mordechai today as pressure has built for him to cut ties with Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid, who has been outspoken about drafting yeshiva bochurim into the army.

“We are here to learn,” said Bennet. “I already know the world of religious Zionism. I don’t know the charedi world,” he admitted.

Bennett has promoted a universal draft, but he also advocates the status of Jewish faith, which he shares with religious parties.

Bennett with roshei yeshiva and others at the yeshivas and discussed various topics. He met personally with Rav Leizer Yudel Finkel, the Mirrer rosh yeshiva, and had a pleasant conversation with him. Bennett learned about the sedorim of the yeshiva and the complexities of running a yeshiva that is home to thousands of talmidim.

“Studying Torah serves Israel interests, as much as settling in the Negev and the Galilee does,” Bennet told the talmidim, but he added that serving in the IDF, in his opinion, must be incorporated into the lives of chareidim.

“Things have changed,” he averred. “We’ll have to find a way to do it.”

Sources stated that Bennett’s visit was supported by Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman, who felt Bennett would gain a better perspective of the Olam Hayeshivos by visiting mekomos haTorah.

  1. He is adamant that he will only stick with Yesh Atid party who wants every one drafted while also betraying his voters (they are against Lapid). These are supposed to be opposing parties, so why are they together? Something is really rotten here and from what has been reported on this, it seems they would like to undermine Netanyahu and also undermine the chareidim, whom they do NOT want in the coalition, at all costs.
