Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Sunday that it would take “a Chanukah miracle” to avoid new elections, referring to the Jewish holiday which begins Thursday evening.

In an effort to avoid a new vote, Gantz met with Finance Minister Israel Katz on Sunday evening for a final effort to resolve the conflict between his Blue White party and the Likud, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The two leaders are due to discuss the state budget for 2020, which must legally be passed by December 23, and the budget for 2021, which Gantz wants to pass by December 31.

“Another week has passed and the country still does not have a budget for 2021,” lamented the Defense Minister during a cabinet meeting on Sunday. “Maybe we can hope for a Chanukah miracle,” he quipped.

  1. Definitely will not pray for a miracle to avoid another election. If anything, we need to pray there should be endless elections until the coming of Moshiach as none of the candidates have leadership qualification. They’re all puppets from the self-appointed radical leftist pro-Arab judges in the high court of injustice who think they’re above the law.
