Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden‘s campaign on Thursday ripped President Trump‘s opposition to funding for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), calling it “an assault on our democracy.”

The Biden campaign seized on comments Trump made to Fox Business Network, where he signaled that he was against approving funding for the post office that Democrats have pushed as part of coronavirus legislation because it would strengthen access to mail ballots.

“The President of the United States is sabotaging a basic service that hundreds of millions of people rely upon, cutting a critical lifeline for rural economies and for delivery of medicines, because he wants to deprive Americans of their fundamental right to vote safely during the most catastrophic public health crisis in over 100 years,” campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement.

  1. Sleepy Dementia Joe only wants FRAUDULENT voting so he can gather more votes – no no no Mr Biden – Americans want a real election without illegal votes or illegal immigrants

AMERICA NEEDS TRUMP TO CONTINUE FOR FOUR MORE YEARS

  2. Interesting how the Trumpies can only insult and defame. Biden is mostly right here. Where he is wrong is that the Republicans have been deliberately sabotaging the Post Office for a decade and a half by forcing it to follow retirement funding rules no other government agencies need to follow. This did not start with Trump.

The interesting thing is that the destruction of the Post Office will likely harm Republicans more than Democrats. Republicans have won numerous narrow elections with margins entirely from their aggressive absentee vote drives. The first example was George Deukmejian’s victory over Tom Bradley for Governor of California; Bradley actually won among voters who voted in person.
