President Biden announced Thursday that he will nominate the first black woman to the Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, saying such a move was “long overdue,” the NY Post reports.

In remarks from the Roosevelt Room at the White House, the president said he intended to settle on a choice before the end of February following a “rigorous” process and vowed his nominee would be “worthy of Justice Breyer’s legacy of excellence and decency.”

“While I’ve been studying candidates’ backgrounds and writings, I’ve made no decision except one: the person I will nominate will be someone of extraordinary qualifications, character, experience and integrity, and that person will be the first black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court,” Biden said. “It’s long overdue in my view. I made that commitment during the campaign for president and I will keep that commitment.”

The president also indicated that Vice President Kamala Harris would play a key role in the selection process, calling her “an exceptional lawyer” and noting her past service as California’s attorney general, as well as on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Read more at the NY Post.

  1. There is still discrimination against red heads! In the name of diversity the next Justice must be have red hair.
There are no red-heads on the supreme court and diversity demands that something be done now!

  2. It is going to be a very easy pick. Out of 13% of the US population, half are women. Therefore, any random name will do. Whether this black female has a law degree, or even a paper that she successfully completed pre-school is absolutely immaterial to Biden’s agenda.
By the way, why is it OK for him to overlook every truly eligible judge, and select a random black woman, while nobody else could officially state that they are hiring only a white or an Asian person?

    • We’ll said. Constitution Scholar Jonathan Turley said exactly that — it’s illegal and unconstitutional. Someone should take him to court for it.

  3. martin luther king must be turning over in his grave. the only thing that matters now is NOT content of one’s charector but the color of his skin. so lives black privilege

  4. When Thurgood Marshall was nominated to the Supreme Court it was based on his erudition, his legal acumen, and his sound decisions on matters that the Court might take up. The only ones who noticed he was black were the same ones that forgot he was human, a kind, unyielding to stupidity, human. RIP Justice Marshall.

  5. Because color and gender are always the most important factors in selecting the best candidate for any job. Like brain surgeon, or even dentist.
