US President-elect Joe Biden is planning to sign some 17 executive orders on Wednesday rolling back US President Donald Trump’s policies, his aides said.
The executive orders will be focused on a range of areas, including immigration, COVID-19 coronavirus and environmental protections.
Biden is expected to end the funding of the Mexico border wall — a signature project of the Trump campaign of 2016 — and revoke Trump’s order calling for strict enforcement of US immigration laws.
He will also remove Trump’s entry ban for nationals of seven designated countries — Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and Iran, later expanded to include North Korea and Venezuela — which was widely covered in the US media as a “Muslim ban.”
Biden is also expected to introduce mandatory face masks in all federal buildings and properties and launch a “100 Days Masking Challenge,” while also terminating the process of US withdrawal from the World Health Organization.
He will extend the ban on evictions and foreclosures in a bid to curb the housing crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rolling back yet another Trump withdrawal, Biden is also expected to reinstate the US membership in the Paris Climate Accord of 2015 and revoke some of Trump’s environmental policies.
