The Biden administration will withdraw the nomination of Neera Tanden to be director of the Office of Management and Budget as early as Wednesday morning, the Washington Post reported citing unidentified sources.

Tanden has faced virtually unanimous opposition from Republicans in the Senate and also at least one Democrat senator, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, due to her vitriolic public statements on social media. Without Manchin, Tanden would need at least one Republican senator to support her to create a 50-50 tie in the Senate and allow Vice President Kamala Harris to cast a tiebreaking vote.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, met with Tanden on Monday but did not divulge a position either for nor against her. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., also has been critical of Tanden, not only for her statements but for her acceptance of corporate donations as head of the liberal advocacy group Center for American Progress.
