Another beauty from Hizzoner, this time in honor of Chol Hamoed.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said today that he wants to send the city’s COVID-19 hot-spot neighborhoods into lockdown again starting Wednesday — shutting down all of their non-essential businesses, public and private in-school learning and indoor and outdoor restaurant dining.

Houses of worship, like shuls, will remain open.

“We’re having an extraordinary problem — something we haven’t seen since spring,’’ de Blasio told reporters on a conference call, referring to the uptick in the coronavirus in those areas.

About a half-million people would be affected by the return to the kind of drastic shut-down that the city hasn’t seen since one was instituted in mid-March.

The move would shut down in-classroom learning for 100 public schools and another 200 private schools, the mayor said.

Meanwhile, another 11 neighborhoods in the city are on a “watch list’’ over their COVID-19 numbers — and would lose indoor dining and have their gyms and pools closed starting Wednesday morning under the city’s push. Read more at the NY Post.

  1. Tell DIblasio that he’s looking at the wrong numbers. He should look at the death rates for these areas. In some the death rate has been at 0 (yes that’s a zero) for many many weeks. Isn’t that what everyone wants?

  2. The data of 11219 Borough Park is on Shabbos 3.9% positive cases, and on friday 4% positive, and we all know Yidden don’t test themselves on Shabbos or Yom Tov, (because it is not Pikuach Nefesh) unless they are admitted to a hospital, so it must be that all or most cases are not coming from the Yidden!

Cuomo has the last word on this lockdown, and so far he hasn’t endorsed the lockdown, so lets wait and see what will happen.

  4. As long the health care system is not close to being overwhelmed =No lock down.
Why can’t this be stopped in court like in other states.

  5. If anyone thinks these lockdowns have to do with this nonsense virus, I have a bridge to sell you. This 2017 concocted coronavirus and the bogus positive numbers are a cover-up for President Trump’s primary goal of the Draining of the Swamp he had promised during the 2016 election – the cleaning up of the elite criminals WORLDWIDE. No other reason.

  6. Wearing masks and distancing brought the numbers down. Not wearing masks and making big simchas and resuming Tefilah BTzibur without distancing bring the numbers back up. Being Noseh Bol Chavero means wearing a mask even if you don’t think it is necessary.

    • Actually it’s just the opposite. Hospitals are full of people with breathing issues and blood clots BECAUSE they were wearing masks. Go to neighborhoods where people don’t wear masks and you’ll see for yourself. Honest doctors warn their patience about masks.

Being Noseh Bol Chavero means warning people of the dangers of masks.

      • No doctor who values his license will tell you not to wear a mask. Respiratory issues and blood clots have zero to do with masks and everything to do with obviously severe symptoms of Covid, and serious respiratory and cardiac issues that are aggravated by Covid. It is a Chillul HaShem to ignore CDC and then demand to be taken to an emergency room because of your own conduct. It is no different than smoking two packs of cigarettes, being diagnosed with cancer and then expecting a miraculous cure. It has nothing to do with being scapegoated by Cuomo or DiBlasio, or voting for Trump. That is the stuff of talk at Kiddush Shabbos morning.

  7. Is this all about the minimal tax refunds for our schools?

Is this because Cumo and Blasio have a huge, huge budget deficit and are looking for ways to ‘save’ money? They think if they close our schools, they’ll get away with not giving us the few pennies they do, which in comparison to the taxes we pay is pennies (it does add up when it’s 200 private schools… Although a few are not Jewish)?

Well, I certainly hope that we won’t capitulate to this tyranny and we’ll be Moser nefesh for Torah-learning

  8. These comments aren’t going to help one bit. The bottom line is that we are about to CHAS V’Shalom enter a MATZIV OF SAKKANA MAMASH. If you were a “neighbour” and your store or restaurant were shut down because of the Orthodox Jews – THEREBY being HIT IN THE POCKET in the worse way, how would YOU REACT?? We are in Galos but we don’t act like it. This has gotten really out of hand and we must unite and start listening EVEN IF WE DON’T WANT TO, EVEN IF THEY ARE WRONG. Rachmana Litzlan if this SHUTDOWN were to happen. CHAS V’Shalom, CHAS V’Shalom. Al tiftach peh l’Satan. If this were Chas V’Shalom to happen then it will perhaps be the first time in an extremely long time, if not the first time EVER, that “our neighbours” will have a true LEGITIMATE REASON to be ANGRY at their Jewish neighbours. Because of our stubbornness, and our KNOW IT ALL attitude, THEIR businesses will be shut down. They rightfully will be furious at us, Chas V’Shalom, and how could we blame them? This is a very, very precarious situation that I do not remember us ever being in. Where? In the frum 9 zip codes of NYC. I hope someone will send out a VERY LOUD ALARM to GET EVERYONE TO FINALLY START COMPLYING WITH WEARING MASKS EVEN IN SHULS, and practice social distancing as well, IMMEDIATELY in order to avoid the possible backlash CHAS V’Shalom. (Not to mention to avoid the spread of the deadly virus, but that’s not the point of this comment.) WE MUST GET EVERYONE ON THE SAME PAGE This is very scary to me. We must take drastic measures IMMEDIATELY before Chas V’Shalom it’s too late, if it isn’t already. והוא רחום יכפר עון

  9. but of course all this is trumps fault after all and the wonderful mayor and governor are really trying to do their very best keeping us safe with policies like rioting and letting sick into nursing homes etc
