Former innovation Minister MK Orit Farkash-HaChoehn has received support from both coalition and opposition members for her bill which would ban TikTok on Government issued phones over security concerns.
Farkash-Hacohen, who now chairs the Knesset’s Committee on Advanced Technologies, stressed that her bill aims to address the risk of sensitive data being collected from government devices and potentially ending up in the hands of foreign governments such as China.
“This bill is not unusual and has already been implemented in countries such as the U.S., Australia, Canada, India and several EU states,” she said.
Currently over 20 Israeli MK’s, including Bibi Netanyahu, have TikTok accounts.
The bill would also ban any other app controlled by foreign states from government-issued phones to state employees, which would include members of Knesset and their staff members.
TikTok a security risk because only the government may spy on you and your family.
