After months of consideration, former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday he will not run for governor, NBC reports.

“No, I am not going to be running for governor of New York state,” De Blasio said in a video tweeted Tuesday morning from his block in Brooklyn. “But I am going to devote every fiber of my being to fight inequality in the state of New York.” The former mayor said he would share more news in coming days about his plans.

For months, De Blasio had done nothing to tamp down the “will he or won’t he” speculation, filing paperwork to lay the groundwork for a campaign and telling supporters he was strongly considering a run – but also steadfastly refusing to answer questions about whether he was actually in, or when he’d decide. The two-term mayor would have faced an uphill battle in a crowded primary that includes Gov. Kathy Hochul, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi. Read more at NBC.

  1. As if had the slightest chance of winning…
Let him devote his time now to Dante and all the circles of Hell, which he has so well earned.

  2. Why did you have to report this so early in the morning? I’m so distraught by his decision, I couldn’t eat my breakfast. He was going to be our savior and now he let us all down. Very upset with him.

  3. Since he sleeps into the late hours of daytime hours, his awake hours are when all his ilk are out and about. So maybe he’ll get them to do something productive instead of hanging out all day, dude!

  4. He doesn’t need to be governor. He singlehandedly destroyed NYC. He should take some time off and bask in the glory of that accomplishment.
