US Secretary of State Antony Blinken conveyed in an interview on CBS’s “Meet the Nation” that Hamas is poised to persist as a challenge in Gaza, irrespective of Israel’s actions in Rafah, where the IDF is preparing to dismantle the last four Hamas battalions.

According to Blinken, without a plan for the day after the war, Israel “will be left holding the bag on an enduring insurgency because a lot of armed Hamas [terrorists] will be left, no matter what they do in Rafah.”

Blinken stated that whatever “initial success” Israel has in Rafah would not be worth it due to the “high cost to civilians.”

Responding to US President Joe Biden’s assertion that certain arms shipments to Israel would be paused to prevent their use in Rafah, Blinken stated that specific systems would not be provided for operations involving a significant military push into Rafah.

“If they withdraw from Gaza, as we advocate, there’s a risk of instability, lawlessness, and a resurgence of Hamas,” he cautioned, highlighting concerns over the potential ramifications of an Israeli withdrawal.

“We aim to prevent Hamas from governing Gaza once more,” he asserted, despite advocating for a ceasefire that could maintain Hamas’s military and political authority in Gaza. “We seek its demilitarization and the apprehension of its leadership by Israel… We propose an alternative approach that we believe to be more effective and sustainable. We continue discussions with Israel on this matter.”

The quoted remarks from Blinken underscore the United States’ nuanced stance on the conflict and its efforts to balance Israeli security concerns with the broader humanitarian implications and the goal of achieving lasting peace in the region.

  1. The latest demand from Blinken is that Israel unconditionally surrender to Hamas. They may not have phrased it that way, they may not even think of it that way, but a demand that Israel “Get out of Gaza” with Hamas intact, it’s leaders alive and well, and the hostages still in captivity being tortured and murdered is exactly what a surrender is.

  2. Blinken stated that whatever “initial success” Israel has in Rafah would not be worth it due to the “high cost to civilians.”

So the “initial success” of the USA in Japan – as a result of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki – was not worth it due to the “high cost to civilians”?

    • None of our current “leadership” would have what it took to drop the A-bomb in Japan. These “pacifists” would have invited Tojo into the Capitol building and handed him the keys to the White House.

  3. Is anyone left out there who still wonders how, in the ’40, so many were able to sit as if deaf and blind while Germany did what they did? Wonder no more. It all began with Obama’s “cash refund” to Iran and has continued until today with Biden’s “funding” Hamas’ Iran-backed war on Israel/Jews.
