bloombergWhile the majority of the public and medical community may be in support of marijuana according to recent surveys, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg adamantly opposed marijuana on Friday, calling the campaign for legalization “wrong-headed.”

“Medical, my… come on. There’s no medical,” Bloomberg said on WOR radio according to CBS New York. “This is one of the great hoaxes of all time.”

The New York State Assembly recently made possession of small amounts of marijuana punishable by a small fine instead of an arrest. But, Bloomberg reiterated his opposition to legalization.

“But the bottom line is I’m told marijuana is much stronger today than it was 20 or 30 years ago. I don’t have any personal experience in terms of today. So that’s one problem,” he said.

“And number two, drug dealers have families to feed. If they can’t sell marijuana, they’ll sell something else, and the something else is going to be worse, and the push to legalize this is just wrong-headed,” he added. “But they say: ‘Oh, well, it’s not going to hurt anybody. It doesn’t lead to dependency.’ Of course it does. And you can argue about recreational things, but it’s a very slippery path.”

Opposing the mayor’s views, an earlier survey published in the New England Journal of Medicine on May 30 showed that 76 percent of international doctors surveyed agreed with the use of medical marijuana. About 1,400 doctors were given a hypothetical case of a woman with metastatic breast cancer, and more than three-quarters said they would have prescribed her medical marijuana.

  1. And this is the same idiot who demanded that everyone shoot himself up with dangerous vaccinations/flu shots! Bl$$my knows medicine like I know…

  2. “I don’t have any personal experience in terms of today. So that’s one problem,” he said.

“It doesn’t lead to dependency.’ Of course it does. And you can argue about recreational things, but it’s a very slippery path.”

So the NYC idiot in chief admitted to being a doper back in the day and continues to claim it leads to dependency and dope is a slippery path. and it all is based on experience. this causes one to wonder – what is his drug of choice now-a-days…

  3. When my mother a”h was dying of cancer and the pain specialist (a Dr. at a prestigious hospital) couldn’t do anything to relieve her indescribable pain, he suggested to us, off the record that she try marijuana. This is before it was legalized. imagine dealing with a parent who is dying and in horrible pain and now our only hope was to go out and do something illegal to alleviate her pain. It was very uncomfortable for me as I had no exposure to this kind of thing. I will tell you that it worked. As maminim bnei maminim we know that everything has a purpose in this world. No one should have to suffer unnecessarily. As Bloomberg said he had no experience in this and so he shouldn’t feel so confident to offer his uninformed opinion.

  4. kochka #3 the reason why you need vaccinations is because being unvaccinated is dangerous to yourself and everyone around you. if you weren’t so ignorant and following quackery you would understand how man live are saved by vaccines you wouldn’t follow discredited reports by discredited doctors you would understand this

  5. This is something that Mayor Bloomberg is actually right with. If only he wouldnt pick the other irrelevant battles. This is certainly a battle worth picking. Legalizing marijuana will only bring further corruption along with the obvious dependency and gateway issues. If you dont believe me just look at whats happening in California where it has been legal for some time now.

  6. Just remember:When Bloomberg was asked (12 years ago) if he ever smoked Marijuana he responded “You bet I did and I enjoyed it”
