bnei-brakBnei Brak wants its own “Central Park”: According a new plan, a huge park will be built in the city, along the eastern bank of the Yarkon River.

The Bnei Brak Municipality hopes that the planned park, which will include footpaths and a pond, will serve as an alternative for Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan’s Yarkon Park.

The plan is to give the city’s residents “a real central park,” says Bnei Brak Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Asher. The mayor is expected to use property tax funds to build the new park, which will stretch over 105 acres.

The project includes an artificial pond with observation posts, bicycle trails, a skateboard park and extreme sports fields, picnic areas and a promenade. Bridges will be built for pedestrians above the park.

The park will include a center offering bicycles for rent, as “an increasing number of haredim ride bikes during their time of leisure,” according to the mayor. A small amusement park may also be built.

Visitors will enter the park from the Bnei Brak railway station, and will be able to park their cars in new parking lots planned in the area.
