bnei-brak-garbageIt’s a feel good story all around.

A resident of Bnei Brak almost suffered a devastating financial loss yesterday, but was saved with help from dedicated city workers.

The man had placed a large amount of money into an envelope. Not realizing what the envelope was for, his wife assumed it was empty and threw it away.

“Wives are always throwing things away,” remarked a neighbor, “but this time it was costly. I told my wife that here is her lesson not to throw away my stuff!”

When the man realized what had happened, he was devastated and shocked. What was there to do?

He immediately ran to contact the Bnei Brak Sanitation Department. In tears, he begged for their help.

The Bnei Brak mayor’s office stepped in at that point. They put the man in touch with Nesanel Nachum, who is in in charge  of the Sanitation Department and the Bnei Brak police patrols.

The city halted all garbage collections in the area while yeshiva bochurim joined city laborers in assisting the man sifting through the garbage for the missing shekels.

After a few hours, they struck pay dirt. The money was found – in the envelope, full intact!

The man was beside himself, consumed by joy.

“My heartfelt thanks to all the people who helped, to the city of Bnei Brak and to all the sanitation workers. Todah rabbah,” he said.

  1. The man’s first Thank You should have been “Thank You, Hashem, for returning the money to me.”

Only after that should he have thanked the people who looked for the money.
