bochurim[Update below.] First report, 9:57 a.m.: The investigation of the corruption scandal that has rocked the global frum community has apparently reached the shores of Eretz Yisroel, with FBI agents taking several bochurim out of a prominent yeshiva in Yerushalayim for questioning. The three bochurim taken for question all reside in chutz la’aretz. The nature of their connection to those arrested last week or the alleged charges is not clear.

Concurrent with the current FBI investigations, Israeli Police are set to investigate several yeshivos.   Police sources speculate that the investigation may expand to include banks that may have been involved in the possible money laundering operation.

Update, 5:45 p.m. IL: The Chevron Yeshiva in Givat Mordechai was mintially shaken by the report that a talmid in the yeshiva was called in by authorities for questioning. The bochur, who originates from the Flatbush Syrian community, was told that he must appear at Police Headquarters tomorrow morning. According to a report in the Israeli chareidi media, Rav Dovid Cohen, well-known rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Chevron, apparently felt that someone was trying to intimidate the bochur for no good reason and that someone was trying to take advantage of him or play a joke on him by telling him that police want him for questioning. Recognizing that it was all nothing more than a prank, Rav Cohen instructed the bochur not to worry at all or go to Police Headquarters at Migras Harusim.

The earlier reports of the FBI questioning yeshiva bochurim seems to have been totally unfounded.

  1. I’m just wondering how many of us know what it means “to be over” on money laundering in the US. I’m not excusing it or condemning it at this point. I just want to know who knows the specifics on this so we all know what the dina d’malchusa is here.

  2. I understand the updated version is that this was a hoax and there haven’t been any arrest as of now. Fbi and Eretz Yisroel are operating together. The bochurim were not arrested

  3. “Yes” has a point. The picture is totally misleading, and people tend to remember the picture long after the text of the article has faded. For that matter, the picture is a total fiction, since nothing like that happened.

Matzav should not have used that picture in the first place, and for sure they should have taken it down as soon as the “Update” became known. On the other hand, at least Matzav published the “Update.” Some people wouldn’t have bothered.
