Israeli forces transferred a casket from Gaza today believed to contain the remains of an Israeli soldier held by Hamas.
The body was handed over to the police, who are now accompanying it to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv, where specialists will carry out a formal identification process expected to take as long as two days.
According to Hamas, the remains belong to Lt. Hadar Goldin, who was killed and taken by the terror group during the 2014 Gaza War. Israeli officials have not yet confirmed this claim, pending forensic verification.
Should investigators verify that the body is indeed Goldin’s, it would mean that four Israeli hostages are still being held in Gaza—Meny Godard, Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, Dror Or, and Sudthisak Rinthalak.
