boltonFormer U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton says President Barack Obama was likely more than happy to board a plane to Europe after hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House last week.

Bolton told WLS Radio’s The Don Wade and Roma Show that Obama’s endorsement of Palestinians demand that their eventual state be based on borders that existed before the 1967 Six Day War was a “big mistake.”

“I don’t know who advised him to do it, but it was a big mistake politically on his part,” Bolton said Tuesday. “I think he just doesn’t understand international politics, he doesn’t really understand the Middle East.”

Bolton said the president’s border speech was an attempt to corner Netanyahu but the prime minister stood up to Obama, and may have gained a lot of respect among Americans.

“Netanyahu turned the tables at that meeting in the Oval Office that he had with the president. Gave a very eloquent, and I might say very gracious rebuttal, to Obama’s entire view of the Middle East. And I think it has given Netanyahu real momentum,” Bolton said.

Bolton says Obama is unaccustomed to the rejection from foreign leaders that Netanyahu gave him, and his six-day, four-country tour of Europe which began Monday couldn’t have come at a better time for him.

“I think he’s reeling. I think he was very happy to get on a plane and go to Ireland and get out of the mess he had created for himself,” Bolton said.

Bolton, who has served in several Republican administrations, says he’s considering his own presidential aspirations.

“Well, I’m thinking very seriously about it, Bolton said. “It’s a very difficult decision but I am convinced that President Obama is beatable and in fact, needs to be beaten for the future security of the country. Two more years is going to be hard enough. Six more years, I don’t even want to think about,” Bolton said.

Bolton says he believes Obama has scared off a number of potential presidential candidates by conducting opposition research to turn up negative information on his opponents, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
