Unable to compete with online prices, Daniel Levine, fourth-generation owner of the J. Levine Co. Books and Judaica that opened in Lower East Side 130 years ago, is closing the Midtown Manhattan store he ran for the past 33 years and moving to online sales.

“The next generation doesn’t shop in stores,” he told The Jewish Week. “That’s the nature of the world.”

Besides some exclusive Judaica stores mostly connected with shuls or museums, Levine’s closure will leave only two regular Judaica stores in the Manhattan area, where there were once dozens of them.
