President Trump’s hardline border enforcer, Tom Homan, has warned that he may pursue legal action against New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy after Murphy hinted that he was housing an undocumented immigrant in his residence.

“If he’s knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien, that’s a violation of Title 8, United States Code 1324. I will seek prosecution or the secretary will seek prosecution,” Homan declared during his appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” Monday evening.

“Maybe he’s bluffing. If he’s not, we’ll deal with that,” Homan continued. “It’s a foolish thing what he said, because I got note of it, won’t let it go, will look into it.”

Homan’s warning followed comments made by Murphy over the weekend, where the New Jersey governor implied that he had taken in a migrant woman and dared the Trump administration to apprehend her. Murphy’s remarks came amid ongoing ICE deportation operations across various states.

“I don’t want to get into too much detail, but there’s someone in our broader universe whose immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to and we said, ‘You know what, let’s have her live at our house above our garage,’” Murphy revealed during an interview.

“And good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her.”

After the backlash, Murphy’s office sought to clarify his statements. A representative told The NY ost on Monday that the governor’s words had been “misinterpreted.”

Later, Murphy’s spokesperson clarified that the governor had been speaking about a friend of his family who is legally in the country but has concerns about a potential Trump presidency.
