Boro Park: $5,000 Reward for Safe Return of Antique Seforim

New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind is encouraging people to share the story of recently stolen antique seforim in an effort to help recover them. Announcing a $5,000 no-questions-asked reward for the tomes, the family of Rabbi Meir Rokeach, the Kozlover Rebbe, whose shul the seforim were stolen from, asked Assemblyman Hikind to assist them in publicizing the robbery.

“Seforim like these are precious to the family and the community, not just because of their monetary value, which is estimated at nearly $400,000, but also because of their history,” explained Hikind. “Collectors and dealers of these types of items should be on the lookout for them.”

Police are investigating the theft of 60 antique seforim taken from Congregation Maase Rokeach in Boro Park. The items taken include three Shelah Siddurim, one Rav Yaakov Emden Siddur, a Tanach, a Lublin Zohar, and two volumes of the Slavita Zohar.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Boro Park Shomrim at 718.871.6666 and the NYPD 66th Precinct at 718.851.5611. In addition, two community rabbonim have offered to accept the stolen seforim anonymously, no questions asked. They are Rav Tzvi Halpern, at 1346 45th Street in Brooklyn, and Rav Yisroel Duvid Harfenes at 244 Hewes Street in Brooklyn.
