matzav_networkBreaking News: The home of a son of a prominent Lakewood, NJ, rov was broken into in the wee hours this morning by four African American hooligans who proceeded to rob the home. When the men entered the house on Curtis Lane through a window shortly before 2 a.m., they found three sons – yeshiva bochurim – seated at the dining room table. The parents and other children were asleep at the time of the invasion.

The men duct-taped the boys and tied them up as they headed to the second floor of the home where they stole a significant amount of money and jewelry, the value of which is not being reported here out of respect for the family. The husband and wife, and a daughter, were duct-taped and tied first and the burglars then demanded the cash and jewelry while holding the homeowners at gunpoint.

Rabbi Yisroel Schenkolewski, the noted and longtime Lakewood askan, told us that, boruch Hashem, the family members are all okay and that the Lakewood Police Department is conducting an extensive investigation to find the burglars.

He added that reports and rumors of an abduction are unfounded.

  1. Rob Lawson hopefuly will find the money and jewelry. I am sure he ahs all his officers on this case.
He is a great police captain.

  2. I am sure now everyone will start pointing fingers. It’s the police’s fault, the township’s fault, the committeemen’s fault, the mayor’s fault, the yeshiva’;s fault, the family’;s fault. etc. etc. etc.
It’s no one’s fault except for the disgusting creatures who committed this awful crime. They should be prosecuted fully.

  3. crime in lakewood is nothing new. we hear these types of stories. when was the last time you heard such a story in monsey or brooklyn.

  4. I would say this is premiditated for sure. Why would they think to rob poonkt this house and get what is boviously a significant amount of cash, jewelry etc.? Elah mai, they knew something, no?

  5. I don’t live in Lakewood but I imagine that the window was locked. How did these guys get in? The report doesn’t say. Did they break the window?

  6. I keep a lot of money in my own house, but no one would ever know. No one would ever break into my house and hold me up
    because why would they
think I have the money under my mattress?
they don’t know. that’s why this
whole story sound sifshy about why they would pick
this house unless they ahd a reason. i don’t
want tos peculate till the facts come
out but I am just wondering about why they knew this house. there are many houses they could have picked.

  7. No.9 and what type of window was it an Anderson or a Pella? Did it open up and down or to the outside. Was the window tinted? Also did he wash Negel Vasser in the morning? Why do people feel the compunction to ask a million totally irrelevent questions?

  8. To #2:

Rob Lawson is not a police captain, he is a police chief. He is the Lakewood Police Chief. He was, beforehand, a captain with the Department, I believe. He took over as the head of the Lakewood Police Department after Mr. Al Peters, the former chief, was let go.

  9. I heard that they cut the phone lines so the family couldn’t call 911 and that they asked them to give them their cell phones.

  10. It would be nice if they men would give the money to the BMG Kolel Campaign.
Rav Yisroel Newman was in Westgate for shabbos.

  11. I am not a detective but perhaps there are fingerprints the police can use, which is why it would have been important to get the cops there right away before anyone else touched the spots and possibly ruined the prints. However, and I am not a posek, once they were out of danger, there is likely no heter to call the police, assuming they had telephone service. Of course a posek must be summoned but once the robbers left, halachically I don’t know what they could have done as long as they were safe and healthy and unharmed.

  12. The lession that should be learned is that if a guy sticks a gun to your head you give him what he wants no matter what he wants – cash, jewlery, whatever….
how about the wise guys who try to negotiate with guys with guns and get shot in the head.

  13. They Yated had a major splashing interview from everyone’s new hero, Harold Hershel Hershkowitz shlit”a. What does he say about this? He should have the answer. mayeb the Downtown Commission Corportaion could get on this case.

  14. I am happy to hear that this family is okay. I would like to know who they are, but I respect their privacy. May Hashem have their money returned to them.

  15. One question: How come when these thing happend we can’t get an official statement from the mayor Steven Langert? Aren’t the elected representatives supposed to be there to comforst their constituents? How dow e know we are safe? WHo knows how many more break ins and killings will happen? My own house was the target of graffitti three months ago. Let me tell you, it is scary. It is scary bec. of the types of people who do these things. I do not feel safe in Lakewood.

  16. “He added that reports and rumors of an abduction are unfounded.”
What?? Where did it say anything aboutan abduction. I dont chap what that has to dow ith anything

  17. It is a chiddush these thugs didn’t kill anyone. As a posek-in-training, I would say with no equivocation that the family should bentch Gomel. Without a doubt.

  18. There are more than 10 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. Does it bother you that there are so many illegal immigrants in Lakewood? What should the township be doing about it? It is estimated that illegal immigrants cost NJ taxpayers millions. Alleged illegal immigrant from Lakewood have been charged with crime after crime. Nothing doing. Soon they’ll approve amnesty and that will be the end.

  19. Lately a lot of banks have been robbed through the roof. obviously these roofs are not that secure and are the weakest link. Your money is safest in your house!!!

  20. I would appreciate if this site would please inform the public of the perpetrators conviction and sentencing when it happens. TEven if they catch them, the success is somewhat futile if there is no consequence for criminal activity. If they are let off easy, them and others of their ilk get the message, i.e. you can do what you want because even if your caught, its no so bad.

  21. To the guy who asked about the APP if there’s a report, don’t worry, they’ll blame it on the Jews. In that paper everything is the Jews’ fault.

  22. Where I live, Shomrim caught someone in the act of breaking into my home while we were sleeping. He had been in the garage and was attempting to break open the back door using various tools in his backpack. He claimed he was only “resting” in the backyard. The police were called and he was arrested. However, he was ultimately let go without punishment as he hadn’t done anything wrong yet!

  23. Ive called the PD for disturbances by neighbors ETC and when we called Moitzai Shabbos they try to talk the caller out of filling out a report, if they insisst they fill it out & say “we can’t commit resources to such a small problem”
    And yes it happened!!!@

  24. As they say, It’s the economy, stupid. It’s so bad many people have to steal to live I know people who wish they could steal to live, just dont have the guts. there are less people to steal from because of the downward turn in the economy. it’s terrible!

  25. Want to do something about it? Support he Lakewood Civian Watch. Now and every year support them and fund them. And if you can, volunteer to join then how ever you can.

  26. Why does the house not have an alarm system? The house is partially liable as it did not protect itself adequately.. These bums had all the time in the world. I am surprised they did not turn on the oven and stove and make themselves a meal or take some chulent while robbing their stuff.

  27. Does anyone know if this has a connection to the home invasion on January 15 at the home of HP, which has a police report number of 10-4046. There too the thugs seemed to have inside info that there would be a lot of jewelry in the home.

  28. Incident: Family gets tied up, robbed, etc.

Message from G-d: We’re in golus. Get used to it. We belong in Eretz Yisroel. We need Moshiach.

  29. They’ve targeted synagogs, shtiblech , and homes We are still in galus. So, if u dont want to wait for Moschiach, pack your pintel and move to budapest .

  30. Its because the cops get paid to wright tickets and not for protecting the citizins that pay there salary. Its just sad what we’ve come to

  31. If you want to see crime, come here to Boro Park in the summer months. So many homes broken into and robbed. No police around. And it happens every single summer.
On Yom Kippur, what do you see the police doing instead of patrolling?
sleeping and snoring in their patrol cars. 66th Precinct hates the Yiden. Maybe they should work in Bushwick or Harlem. I don’t think they will be cooping there.

  32. I wish to share my words of comfort with the [deleted by moderator] family and their choshuva parents. The nicest people, special special people. I really hope Police recover the stolen goods.

  33. Beth Am Shalom is now selling trees in Israel through the Jewish National Fund. … 400 Carey Street • Lakewood, New Jersey 08701 | Telephone: 732-363-2800

  34. All I know is that at CHEMED last Friday, [deleted by moderator] told [deleted by moderator] and [deleted by moderator] Congressman Chris Smith.
    Good luck Smith!

  35. I WAS ALSO HELD UP AT GUNPOINT IN FRONT OF 4TH AND PRIVATE WAY. I HAD JUST BOUGHT A NEW CAR AND A GANG OF PUERTO RICAN THUGS ASKED ME FOR MY CAR KEYS WHEN I WAS WALKING HOME SHABBOS NIGHT.
I BEGAN SCREAMING CHAPSUM AND EVERYONE CLODED THEIR WINDOWS AND DOORS. I THEN GRABBED THE GUY AND WAS SCREAMING LIKE A MANIAC. ALL OF THEM FLED TOWARDS THE LAKE AND I CONTINUES SCREAMING & RUNNING AFTER THEM. WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE BEIS MEDRASH WHICH WAS NEXT TO A BEIS MEDRASH. I TOLD THE GUYS I WAS JUST MUGGED DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME YELLING. THEY TOLD ME THEY HEARD THE SCREAMING SO THEY BARRICADED THEMSELVES INSIDE THE BEIS MEDRASH!!!!
THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER COMMUNITY WATCH IN LAKEWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. The APP is a rag. Look what they did to the shaimos story. It is only ebcause of them that every news outlet across the country picked it up.

  37. Nonetheless, having reported that the people are safe, this incident hopefully will act as a wake-up call to the local residents — and others as well — not to be careless to leave doors open or unlocked, or windows and to secure your homes. Also, dont leave handbags or any other valuable items unattended on a windowsill or anywhere else where some creep can easily grab it.
They should definitely bentsch gomel on Shabbos.

  38. The cops are worthless!! I got pulled over on Friday on rout 9 by a mean cop for nothing!! The cops I tell you are worthless. We are lucky we are all even alive. Its a sick world. The Police dont protest anyone but themselves and their paychecks.

  39. @ #38 Scared:

“My own house was the target of graffitti three months ago. Let me tell you, it is scary. It is scary bec. of the types of people who do these things. I do not feel safe in Lakewood.”

Then it’s high time you upped sticks and moved to the only place in the world that is safe for Yiddn: Eretz Yisroel.

  40. We have to arm ourselves and learn how to use firearms responsible. When word gets out that there’s a good chance that there’s a 9mm or a.38 (or a .22 for the ladies -Kli Gever) in trined hands – thing’s will calm down really quick. Keeping a low-profile would help too – lama titrau.

  41. The police go to sleep on Shabbos because there aren’t any yeshiva leit to ticket. Even when they are up they are too busy writing tickets to the BMG students.

  42. If this did happen on Shabbos there is a very simple explanation. Some thieves have a system whereby they telephone a house, and if there is no answer they assume no one is home and they can break in without being disturbed. I know one family where this happened. The thieves came in on Shabbos and were astonished to find the owners home. Since all they wanted to do was rob the house, they tied the people up, finished the robbery and left. Like these thieves, they knew that if they hurt anybody there would be a serious investigation and lots of publicity, and they would be more likely to be caught than with a simple burglary.

BTW, this is a warning to those foolish enough to keep lots of valuable things in your house. If you don’t trust the banks, put everything in a safe deposit box in a bank. If your cleaning lady sees the stuff around and tells her cousin who tells her neighbor who tells…. You get the picture.

  43. the artical said 4 african americans broke into the house. did you need to tell us they were african americans

    HASHEM ad mosai rishoyim yaloizu
