President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is quitting the Iran nuclear deal.
In announcing his decision, Trump is expected to allow new sanctions to go forward, crippling the touchstone agreement negotiated by his predecessor, according to a US official and a person familiar with the plan.
“The so-called Iran deal was supposed to protect the United States and our allies from the lunacy of an Iranian nuclear bomb, a weapon that will only endanger the survival of the Iranian regime,” the President said. “In fact, the deal allowed Iran to continue enriching uranium and over time reach the brink of a nuclear blackout.”
President Trump cited Netanyahu’s findings last week, where the Israeli Prime Minister showed documents proving that Iran was not keeping to the deal.
The deal also did nothing to stop Iran from supporting terror around the world, according to Trump.
