Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer’s brother says he decided to retire at the end of this term because it would create an opportunity for a Democratic president to replace him with someone “like minded.” Charles Breyer told The Washington Post that the justice was well aware of a campaign to get him to give up his seat.

“I think what impressed him was not the campaign but the logic of the campaign,” the brother said. “And he thought he should take into account the fact that this was an opportunity for a Democratic president—and he was appointed by a Democratic president—to fill his position with someone who is like-minded.” In addition, Charles Breyer said, “he did not want to die on the bench.” Read more it at The Washington Post.

  1. They think if they’ll keep repeating their lies the public will believe it. Couldn’t be further from the truth. The more they repeat it, the more it gets investigated. Apparently, this judge was coronavirused with all the other judges besides Justice Clarence Thomas.

  2. Of course that is a plausible explanation, as is the fact that he realized that the Democrats will most probably lose their majority in both the Congressional chambers at midterms, and that if he is to be replaced with a liberal ideologue, it would have to be earlier than later. It wasn’t dying on the bench that was concerning; it was replaying the Ginsburg scenario with consequences, which called for this move.
Only he knows the amount of pressure that was brought to bear on him to retire, right after he announced that he has no plans on doing so.
