Lucy Powell, a senior member of the UK Labour government, shared that the administration may introduce a proposal to reduce the voting age to 16 as early as next spring.
Powell’s comments came in an interview with Sky News, where she was asked about potential changes to the laws regarding foreign donations to political parties. This question arose in light of reports suggesting that Elon Musk had financially supported the right-wing populist ‘Reform’ party.
She emphasized that there are no plans to amend such laws, stating, “We’ve no immediate plans to do that, but we do have a manifesto commitment to look more broadly at our elections regime in this country.”
The Labour Party’s manifesto for the May elections had pledged to reduce the voting age to either 16 or 17.
Yet, during King Charles’s speech at the opening of the parliamentary session, a speech prepared by the government, no mention was made of any changes to the law. This omission has sparked doubts about whether the proposal to lower the voting age will be pursued.
Powell clarified, saying, “We are committed to bringing forward some changes to the way in which elections are run in this country.”

Yes, why not leave the decision on government to youngsters who don’t have a shred of actual brain and are too busy getting high on drugs, alcohol, and other things. Way to make sure that the drug-pushers (AKA Liberals) stay in control of things…
If they don’t allow 16 year olds to sell or buy alcohol, they should not be allowed to vote.
If so, then why not lower the age across the board — for example, allowing 17-year-old criminals to face charges as the young adults they are (rather than considering them “minors” and referring to them as “children”)?
Why not allow 16- and 17-year-olds adult privileges — and adult consequences? Society would be better off, as would be these young adults.
As Just Sayin’ indicated, the reason for lowering the voting age is to manipulate the vote to allow Liberal extremists to maintain control.
