Brooklyn, NY – A Brooklyn assemblyman is hoping to end what he calls a parking meter “shell game” that he says has been ripping off New Yorkers.
William Colton said many motorists are being unfairly ticketed for using the same muni-meter receipt with remaining time left on it to park in more than one location despite there being no law banning such a practice.
Colton tells 1010 WINS if his legislation becomes law it will eliminate the ambiguity surrounding the muni-meter rule.
“We want to encourage people to do their business, to shop without the fear of having to pay a penalty because bureaucrats are interpreting the law that makes them pay something that’s not fair,” Colton said. “This law is going to bring about some clarity and stability to the way the parking regulations are interpreted.”
The bill is now in the Assembly’s Cities committee.
It will need to pass by both chambers of the legislature and the governor’s signature before becoming law.

can someone explain the logic of putting only one meter on a block. Why cant they put one on each corner and one in the middle of the block.
