Former President Jimmy Carter says he corresponds with foreign leaders the old-fashioned way – through snail mail – because he suspects his communications are watched by intelligence agencies.
“I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored,” Carter said in an interview with Andrea Mitchell that was aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
“And when I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write the letter myself, put it in the Post Office and mail it, because I believe if I send an email, it will be monitored,” Carter said.

This is very interesting and I think he makes a lot of sense. Sure, a million people would give a tooth or more to get a look at a presidents communications. But if you really have what it takes, it should not be a big deal to write something on an email or unsecure channel, unless you are worried that the counterrevolutionaries are going to get your camera. Ultimately, I like that he writes letters. I personally would like to have days where that would be a better option than an electronic expression. I have decided that the ultimate aim of personal communications checks in the future will ultimately be safety and security; not political promise we can of course hope. But really, there is always a criminal and you are always ready to be innocent in your ways. So if you are afraid of the future, you should just run back to your grade school and wring out your hat. The future does not bite, but the opportunity to be more agreeable is always a better option when you love your friendships and value the pen. I could be wrong, but I do like the media we can use. Maybe Jimmy Carter has some merit and walk here, but I would like to be seen on email as it does improve the mood of the reader to see instant communication many times over. And on that, lets hope that the NSA does not feel this is a very threatening condition to write as one feels one must do to be one’s self in life. Trust is always a blessing.
