CBS News Reporter Says Biden’s ‘Obvious Cognitive Decline’ Most Underreported 2024 Story

CBS News reporter Jan Crawford stated on Sunday that President Joe Biden’s “obvious cognitive decline” was the most overlooked story of 2024. She noted that while it was evident to most, the issue was largely ignored by the corporate media, whose role it is to cover the White House and its occupant. Crawford, who serves as the network’s chief legal correspondent, acknowledged that the entire narrative of the 2024 election might have been altered if the media and the insular Democratic political circle had addressed Biden’s cognitive state earlier in the election cycle.

In response to a question from “Face the Nation” moderator Major Garrett about the most underreported story of 2024, Crawford explained that the concerns voters had about Biden’s fitness for office were largely dismissed by political reporters. “Undercovered and underreported, that would be, to me, Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline that became undeniable in the televised debate,” she remarked on the Sunday morning program.

Crawford also referred to recent articles, including reports by the Wall Street Journal, which highlighted how White House staff members had concealed Biden’s cognitive struggles over the past four years. According to the report, aides kept a tight control around the 82-year-old president, limiting his face-to-face interactions. Meetings were kept brief, access was tightly managed, senior advisers acted as intermediaries, and public appearances were highly scripted.

Despite this, Biden continued to insist he was capable of running for re-election. “And yet he insisted that he could still run for president. We should have much more forcefully questioned whether he was fit for office for another four years, which could have led to a primary for the Democrats,” Crawford said during the year-end roundtable on CBS’ Face the Nation. “It could have changed the scope of the entire election.”

Back in September 2022, a Harvard/Harris Poll showed that Biden’s approval rating was in negative territory, with many voters expressing doubts about his mental “fitness” for office, as reported by Breitbart News. The poll found that 56 percent of respondents voiced concerns about Biden’s mental health, while only 44 percent considered him “mentally fit” to serve as president. Among those doubting his fitness were 67 percent of independents, 85 percent of Republicans, and only 18 percent of Democrats.
