Bnei Brak was plunged into mourning on Monday night with the passing of Reb Nosson Shaul Rosenberg z”l, a longtime Gerrer chossid and Holocaust survivor, who was niftar at the age of 100.
Born in 1925 in the town of Bendzin, Poland, he was the son of Reb Mordechai Rosenberg hy”d. He miraculously survived the horrors of the Holocaust, later marrying the daughter of Reb Avrohom Yosef Deutsch hy”d.
From his youth, he was deeply attached to the rebbes of the Gerrer dynasty. Beginning with the second cycle of Daf Yomi, he faithfully learned Daf Yomi for decades, completing the entire Shas in every cycle except the most recent. Even in his final days, he continued to hold steadfastly to the Daf.
Those who knew him recall a man of integrity and yiras Shomayim, humble and unassuming, who never took credit for his own deeds. His face radiated warmth, and he greeted all with a cheerful countenance. A living witness to the tragedies of the last century, he would often share memories of what he had endured during the Holocaust.
For his livelihood, Reb Rosenberg ran Rosenberg Electric in Bnei Brak, conducting all his business dealings with honesty, simplicity, and modesty. Torah, however, always remained the focus of his life, with work secondary.
As recently as last year, on Shabbos Selichos, he traveled with great effort to the Gerrer Rebbe’s court in Yerushalayim. At the seudah, the Rebbe mentioned him with admiration, remarking on his mesirus nefesh: “A Yid has come here by traveling—a very elderly Yid.”
He leaves behind a large family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who continue his legacy.
The levayah was held tonight beginning from his daughter’s home on Rechov HaRav Shach in Bnei Brak, proceeding via the Hershkowitz shul on Chabakuk Street, and continuing to the Kiryat Shaul cemetery for burial.
Yehi zichro boruch.
