[Video below.] Today, Chacham Ovadiah Yosef went to be menachem avel the family of Rav Yehudah Mualem zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Porat Yosef, who was niftar last week. Rav Mualem was known as the senior Sephardic rosh yeshiva of the generation and served as a maggid shur and rosh yeshiva at Porat Yosef for over six decades. He was 90 years old.
Rav Mualem was one grade above ybl”c Rav Ovadiah at the famed Yeshivat Porat Yosef in the Old City of Yerushalayim.
Rav Mualem was known for his greatness in Torah, his sterling middos, and his unparalleled humility.
In the following video, Chacham Ovadiah is seen being menachem avel the family and sharing personal memories of the great gaon and tzaddik who was taken from Klal Yisroel.

Torah Jewry along with all of Klal Yisrael and especially Sephardic Torah Jewry mourns the great loss of Hagaon Hacham Yeuhda Mualem zsl. We all weep for the passing of our teacher the genius disciple and holy man in our generation. He was known for his humility, unique qualities, and outstanding knowledge of Torah (revealed and hidden). He was the grandson of the late Hagaon Rabbi Yehuda Mualem zsl.
It was known that his wife Rabanit Mualem, some seventy years ago, until today, he never prepared for himself food or a cup of coffee, without ever asking his wife if she also wanted something to eat or drink. He was completely unselfish individual.
Thousands came to flock for berachot and came to him for advice or blessing. Rabbi Muallem studied in his youth at Yeshivat Porat Yosef in the Old City, and was a student for more than 30 years of the great Kabbalist, Rabbi Efraim Menashe Cohen, a student of the Ben Ish Hai.
Hagaon Hacham Yehuda Mualem, passed away on Shabbat Bereshit at age 90. The eulogy took place in yeshivat Proat Yosef at 10pm and was later buried the following day in Har Menuchot.

rav moalem was the mechutan of rav ben zion abba shaul and together with rav ovadia yosef they studied under rav ezra attiyah zatzal. He was known for his non stop learning and unparallel humily. He wasnt known because he ran away away from honor..he was a true gadol!
