The Shas party, in a statement, said that Rav Yitzchak’s “election will bring honor to the institution of the rabbinate whose essence is issuing religious rulings.”

Rav Yitzchak  Yosef is the author of the Yalkut Yosef and a rosh yeshiva. He was nominated by his father for the position of Yerushalayim chief rabbi years ago.

  1. he’s not the youngest son. R’ Dovid of Har Nof and R’ Moshe of Har Nof are both younger. R’ Yitzchok is actually the second oldest son after R Yaakov Zt’l who was niftar a couple months ago

  2. His sons were born in this order:
Rav Yaakov zt’l – Rosh Yeshiva of Hazon Yaakov,
Rav Avraham – Chief Rabbi of Holon -(born when Hacham Ovadia and family lived in Egypt),
Rav Yitzack – Author of Yalkut Yosef (~40 volumes, En Yitzchak 3 volumes, Shulchan Hamaarechet 2 Volumes and igeret leben torah) and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Hazon Ovadia,
Rav David – Author of Halacha Berura and Torat Hamoadim and Rosh Yeshiva of Yechave Daat,
Rav Moshe – head of Badatz Bet Yosef Kashrut Organization.

The article probably meant to say he endorses his youngER son, (over Rav Avraham who was a possible candidate).
