Incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s charedi allies have warned that if the country’s most recent inconclusive election does indeed lead to political stalemate and a failure to form a government, he should not count on their support if there is an additional national ballot.

The premier, whose Likud party received the highest number of mandates, has met with the leaders of Shas and United Torah Judaism (UTJ) following the March 23 elections. Although Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin has tasked Netanyahu with forming a coalition government, there is no clear path to a ruling 61-seat majority in the 120-seat Knesset (Israel Parliament).

Despite Shas and UTJ’s public expressions of support, television reports said they told Netanyahu that they will not go with him to fifth elections, reported The Times of Israel.

The charedi parties have noted Yamina party chairman Naftali Bennett’s potential options for forming a government and have assessed that he is unlikely to forgo the potential to be Israel’s next prime minister if he can maneuver such a scenario.

  1. I have a hard time believing this story as Netanyahu is currently the best option for the religious parties to ally with . Definately better than a government with gantz (who until after the last election was running with lapid) Bennet (who doesnt know what he wants in anything) or Saar (whos whole claim is not Bibi). Daven that moshiach should come quick and we shouldnt need politicians at all just moshiach
