Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced new eligibility criteria for government daycare subsidies on Wednesday, effectively cutting off funds to tens of thousands of charedi families and eliciting allegations of religious persecution from charedi media and lawmakers.

The new rules, which are slated to come into effect at the start of the new school year, will require both spouses to work at least 24-hours a week in order to qualify for the payments, which comes to around 1,000 shekels ($305) per child under the age of three.

United Torah Judaism party chairman Moshe Gafni slammed the new policy, declaring that Lieberman, who he described as “evil,” was preventing charedi women from participating in the workforce, causing “severe economic harm to these families.”

“This is a direct and deliberate attack on charedi families, out of disgust and hatred towards the students and families with children,” UTJ MK Yaakov Litzman declared, accusing the government of “waging a struggle against all that is sacred and dear to us.”

  1. Those ludicrous Hafgonos, where they were sitting on the floors of all the highways, blocking cars and buses, got the Chilonim elected. Those silly Hafgonos encouraged the Chilonim to go out and vote and also developed their towards Yeshiva education.
Even Heimishe people in America were disgusted by their behavior at those Hafgonos.
Every action has consequences, even if your having fun.

    • you are so ignorant!!!!!!!!!!! Have you witnessed any hafganos? the artists, the disabled, the misnachlim??? That is one of the ways israelis protest. What you are saying has zero to do with the elections. In eretz yisroel especially in regards to the government you see the Yad Hashem openly. THere is a plan up there and while we sit here like fools trying to find excuses; up there they have bigger and better plans.

  2. Just as predicted.Next, Lieberman will probably stop funding for all charedi schools with the excuse that they don’t teach enough of the “government curriculum”.

  3. Democracy ensures you don’t get a better Goverment than you deserve. The fact is that many Chareidim sat out the past election in EY and the Chareidi parties instead of adding seats due to higher population growth , lost seats in the past election.

    • Agreed.

Gimel/Shas blew it big by constantly ignoring their own constituents and taking their votes for favor. Younger bochrim who could vote were actually voting AGAINST them, while many older chareidim sat out.

Each year the support for Gimel/Shas goes down and they’ve even recognized this fact, but refuse to to anything about it. Instead they play victim and hope that will bring in the votes.

    • Because the amon am are more interested in when & where their next exotic vacation will be. They view the suffering of others as THEIR problem, not mine. I can’t get bogged down with yenims tzaros.

  4. I am not understanding, if he takes money away, then it affects everybody not just the ultra orthodox. So what is the problem? How does this only target the orthodox? Also what would be so bad if the orthodox got real jobs, instead of freeloaded? And yes, before you get too crazy, I am frum.
