Analyzing data of the Education Ministry, the Chareidi Institute for Policy Studies determined that chareidi pupils comprised 25 percent of the Jewish school body in Eretz Yisroel last year.

The proportion of secular and religious Zionist pupils was 56.2 percent and 18.7 percent respectively. Since 2000, the number of children in the chareidi educational system rose by 89 percent.

Almost 30 percent of kindergarten children (110,000) were chareidim last year, indicating that chareidim will comprise a third of Israel’s Jews within a decade or two.

In Yerushalayim, the percentage of chareidi children in kindergartens was 66 percent.

  1. this is good, I hope we can outvote the atheists within a generation and take over the Knesset and finally give kollelim the respect they deserve.

  2. While the Ministry of Education figures are accurate, your interpretation of these figures is incorrect.

We are not looking at the growth of the Charedi population.

We are looking at the phenomenon called PROJECT RISHUM. Tens of thousands of children FROM SECULAR HOMES have been enrolled in Torah schools, especially pre-schools.

This is why the charedi kindergartens and nurseries made up only between 6% and 7% for all the years from 1979 (when the Ministry started keeping track) till 1998 when P’eylim / Lev L’Achim initiated the mass registration campaigns that have brought 3500 – 5500 children to Torah schools each year since. But today, the number has crossed the 25% mark…all thanks to this miracle in our time.

On top of this, we can celebrate the fact that most of these children in turn bring their parents and siblings to embrace Torah U’Mitzvos. The Teshuva Movement is alive and well and is being powered by the children of these as-yet secular families who have been given the chance to study in Torah schools thanks to Lev L’Achim.

Now read those statistics again and marvel at the vision of the Gedolei HaDor, led by Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman, who saw the opportunity 19 years ago and mobilized the Torah world to reach out to the unlearned and convince them to give their children the education they were not privileged to receive.
