Yanky Goldhaber, a popular social media personality and a chareidi soldier serving in a special IDF unit that encourages chareidi enlistment, says he was spat on by a chareidi man while traveling on a bus. Goldhaber shared details of the encounter in a post on social media, describing what he said was a painful experience that reflected the deep tensions surrounding the draft issue within the chareidi community.

According to Goldhaber, the incident occurred while he was traveling to central Israel in uniform.

“I was sitting in my uniform on the way to the center of the country, and he spat on me. Literally.”

Despite the encounter, Goldhaber said he did not view the individual who spat on him as an extremist and expressed sympathy for the environment that may have shaped his views.

“The truth is that I have no complaints against him. He didn’t seem like one of the extremists,” Goldhaber wrote.

He argued that many people have come to view soldiers negatively because of the broader conflict surrounding the enlistment of bnei yeshiva.

“Still, he spat on me because we, as a country, as an army, and as citizens, have caused him to hate every type of soldier.”

Goldhaber said that in the eyes of some within the community, every chareidi soldier is automatically labeled a Chardak and viewed as part of a system perceived as hostile to lomdei Torah.

“Every soldier to him is a Chardak (chareidi kal daas),” he wrote.

He continued by explaining what he believes motivates such hostility.

“He thinks that we are persecuting Torah learners, chas v’shalom, sending some of them to detention and prison, so is it any wonder that they hate us?”

Addressing the broader debate over the enlistment of chareidim, Goldhaber said the issue is complex but stressed that the animosity he witnessed was rooted in larger societal tensions rather than personal hatred.

“Should a solution be found for the enlistment of chareidim? Maybe yes and maybe not, but the hatred that I saw in his eyes was definitely not personal hatred. It’s only because a tango requires two sides.”

Goldhaber concluded by calling for an end to hostility and emphasizing that violence will not resolve the dispute.

“Let’s just say that nothing will be accomplished through violence. I promise!”

    • #1 Many spit after saying Shaketz teshaktenu vesa’ev tesaavenu ki cherem hu when passing a tiflah.
#2 He should thank G-d it wasn’t toxic like his friends the Erev Rav who spray charedim with.

  1. It was so painful to read this.. instead of going over to the soldier and thanking him for his service to the country they spit on him. It’s against every principle a yid stands for.
This ‘chareidi man’ as he’s referred to has a lot to learn..

  2. Yes, it is bad he was spat on. The vast majority of frum Yidden oppose that behavior.

Call me crazy, but I’m more concerned about the yeshivah bachur who snatched from his home in the middle of sitting shivah for his father to forcibly serve in the IDF and shoved in prison – with the full support of the police, many politicians, and secular media.

  3. this is all lapids making. He pulled the left so anti-haredi that this is a natural reaction to the other way. The sinah of hilonim towards haredim is sadly soo great that my friend was in israel and he was the target of this anti-haredim. He was accused of not going to the army, even though he has never been nor lived in israel. He was there for a vacation. Everybody should take a minute and say tehillim for yair ben tommy (not the mayo) and kalba. he should have a refuah shelema!

  4. Some of the comments above indicate that those who made them had their ruchnius heavily damaged by their opposition to IDF. Ingesting too much hate ALWAYS does that. And to be clear I daven many times a day every day for the Bittul Gezeras Giyus.

  5. Had the guy gone OTD altogether but not joined the IDF he probably would not have gotten spit on or be on the receiving end of some of the hostile comments above.

    • Even the most anti-IDF people understand the kids who are mostly OTD and not in yeshivah and not trying to find a vocation either, who decide to join a charedi unit.

It’s harder to understand this guy. Having said that, people shouldn’t spit on him.

  6. As I stood waiting for a bus, 2 Yassamnikim pretended like they were going to run me over with their massive motorcycle as they zoomed straight at me down the sidewalk.

It was night and they also shined their headlight right in my eyes so I could see nothing except the light.

Fortunately, Hashem gave me the presence of mind not to move, to realize they weren’t really going to run into me, but just playing “chicken”. They turned off the sidewalk at the last millisecond and no harm was done.

But had I panicked, I could’ve seriously hurt myself or others (like if I’d run into the street, etc.).

I’m a middle-aged woman and these were two big tough guys. Real heroes. They’re just bullies who hate charedim.

Frankly, I think that was worse and much more threatening than getting spit on.
