Chelsea Clinton Responds To Criticism Of Her ‘Spinach Pancakes’

Political scion, college professor, mother of two. Chelsea Clinton is many things. But food photographer she is not.

On Tuesday, Clinton, 36, the only child of former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, took to Twitter to celebrate the venerable National Pancake Day with a unflattering photo of “spinach pancakes.” The internet – that faceless collective of anxious fingers – did not respond well.

Needless to say, not many were there for Clinton, who was a vegetarian for nearly two decades, and her “pancakes,” which appeared to be the victims of terrible photography, looking more plant frond than fit for actual eating.

But instead of remaining mum on daughter Charlotte’s green pancakes, Clinton decided to take on her critics in a succinct tweet Wednesday:

“Dear internet, my daughter needs +iron so we put spinach in everything we can. The pancakes may not be pretty but she eats them(&their iron)”

OK, this wasn’t a burn per se, but it was a definitive example of Clinton’s newly revamped online persona, which has leaned toward edgy since her mother’s crushing presidential loss in November.

Several times a day, Clinton, once a reluctant public figure, sends out politically charged (and sometimes snarky) missives to her 1.5 million Twitter followers. The topics range from openly criticizing President Donald Trump’s policies, supportive Clinton Foundation retweets, and, of course, controversial pancake recipes.

The heir to the Clinton political dynasty has said that public office could be in her future. In 2013, she told CNN that if she “thought I could make more of a difference in the public sector, or if I didn’t like how my city or state or country were being run, I’d have to ask and answer that question.”

  1. Hurray. Chelsie for President in 2020. When she opens her library, she can include her very own cookbook with pancake recipes.

  3. That’s the problem today – everything we do has to be posted on a public forum, including what we eat. If Chelsea wants to eat spinach pancakes, let her eat them, but, why photograph them and put them on public display for millions of people to make comments about them?
