IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited the site of Thursday’s terror attack at the Allenby Crossing on Friday, where he oversaw the first stage of the military’s investigation into the incident.

Also present at the review were Major General Ghassan Alian, who heads COGAT, Major General Eyal Harel of the Planning Directorate, Major General Avi Bluth, commander of the Central Command, officials from the Israel Airports Authority, and several other senior officers.

Following the initial assessment, Zamir directed that all convoy movements from Jordan into Gaza be temporarily halted until the investigation is concluded and corrective measures are adopted.

Later in the day, the Chief of Staff held a situational briefing and toured the “Yanshuf” outpost, accompanied by Brigadier General Oren Simcha, commander of the 96th Division, the commander of the Jordan Valley and Valleys Brigade, and other senior commanders.

“Yesterday, two of our soldiers were murdered here,” Zamir stated. “This is a grave and difficult incident; we will thoroughly investigate it and draw the necessary lessons.”

He went on to emphasize, “In recent months, we established a dedicated division for the eastern border, we are strengthening, and will continue to strengthen all components of defense along this border. Even after yesterday’s difficult incident, we must remember that the strategic-security cooperation with Jordan greatly contributes to the IDF and must be preserved.”

The Chief of Staff further remarked, “This week, the IDF operated in multiple arenas in both defense and offense. We are approaching the holiday season, a time in which we must remain vigilant and strong in defense in all arenas. We will operate wherever we are required to prevent harm to Israeli civilians.”

He concluded with a message to the soldiers under his command: “IDF soldiers stand guard to enable the people of Israel to celebrate the high holidays in peace, this is our mission.”
