It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of the Chief Rabbi of Morocco, R’ Aharon Monsonego zt”l.

 

R’ Ahron was the head of the Rabbinical Court in Morocco and his father served before him as the Rabbi of Fes. Monsonego left Morocco for Israel four years ago to live near his children due to his age and poor health.

The Rav’s condition deteriorated on Monday and he was taken to Shaarei Tzedek hospital, where he was nifter the following day. R’ Ahron was 90-years-old.

I just wonder why nobody mentioned that we should daven for him when he was sick. my brother was driving near Casablanca police officer stopped him he told the policeman do you know who is in the back el hizzan monsonego the officer literally went through the back window to kiss his hand and get hjs blessing then he told all hia comrades to come over for a blessing he was abig talmid hacham and a very revered dayan

    Can someone please explain what’s happening in the picture and who’s who? The younger fellow is wearing the sacred Morrocan Jalabiya. I’ve never seen it with its hood on the head!

  3. I know that the Jalabiya is sacred to Jews but this picture looks like it’s King Muhammad and it seems like he’s putting on some royal medallion upon the rabbi! The king, even though he’s muslim likes Jews and has done a lot to protect them.
