Israeli Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi Rav Kalman Ber issued a directive on Monday, providing guidelines for special tefillos to daven for rainfall.
“Our farmers and the produce of the land are in critical need of water,” he stated in a letter addressed to numerous communities.
This exceptional announcement outlined tailored instructions for different groups. For those of Sephardic heritage, Rav Ber requested the recitation of a special tefillah before krias haTorah on Mondays, Thursdays, and Shabbos. Meanwhile, Ashkenazic communities were advised to incorporate a unique tefillah during Shema Koleinu in Shemoneh Esrei.
“The current situation demands extraordinary prayer,” the Chief Rabbinate emphasized. “We are witnessing the severe plight of farmers and the troubling statistics concerning the water levels of the Kinneret.”
Beyond the plea for rain, Rav Ber also urged the continued recital of tefillos for the protection and success of IDF soldiers, the recovery of those who are injured, and the safe return of those held captive or missing.
