rav-amar-rav-metzgerIsrael’s two chief rabbis, Sephardic Chief Rabbi Rav Shlomo Amar and Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Rav Yona Metzger, both received threatening letters to their offices today, warning them to allow the so-called “Women of the Wall” to pray at the Kosel Hamarovi “in their way and according to their custom,” or else “you will return home with 100 chareidi bodies.”

  1. Nonsense, but I doubt the threats were sent by any of the WoW “bigshots” (if it was sent by WoW at all. They deny sending it). They’re not foolish enough to jeopardize everything they’ve been fighting for over a threat no one will take seriously.

  2. Mosquitos are attracted to blue lights. When the light is electrified the insects are zapped to their death. An efficient pest control system. Certain warzones in the world also act like magnets to disaffected people looking for a sense of purpose, belonging and meaning. Now Jerusalem is meant to be a “Place of Peace” not a battleground. (Ditto the Kotel Plaza.) Peace implies the absence of violence and conflict. Spaces that offer healing, spiritual uplift and connection attract people. The schechina cannot dwell where there is strife and conflict.

The issue of management here is paramount, because captains set the tone, philosophical position and orientation of the ship. When leaders magnify differences, or get bogged down with myopic focus on minutaie they make it almost impossible for people to find common ground.

Which geometries should reign? Which energies should hold sway? Let’s see what unfolds in the coming days and weeks.

    Prayers for Jerusalem.

  3. I’ve learned that when there’s threats, that’s the proof the cause is she-lo l’shaim shamayim in every way. As if any of us needed proof that a public display of tefilla was not l’sheim shamayim we have it now… Hashem Yerachem.

  4. Based on this news story, the “Women of the Wall” should be called “Bnos Eisav” (Daughters of Esau) per “Al Charbecha Tichye” (the legacy assigned by the Patriarch Jacob to his son Esau: You shall live by the sword).

  5. CORRECTION:
Based on this news story, the “Women of the Wall” should be called “Bnos Eisav” (Daughters of Esau) per “Al Charbecha Tichye” (the legacy assigned by the Patriarch Isaac to his son Esau: You shall live by the sword).
