Don’t panic: just be prudent.
That was the message President Barack Obama relayed from Jay Leno’s couch Tuesday night.
Appearing on The Tonight Show, the president made his first public comments on the string of embassy closures in the Middle East, warning travelers over a possible terror threat.
Americans shouldn’t “overreact” but should act “prudently,” he said, adding, “the odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident.”
This week, the State Department shuttered more than a dozen embassies and consulates after intercepting al Qaeda messages that seemed to indicate an attack in Yemen.
Obama also commented on the current outrage over the NSA programs, saying: “We don’t have a domestic spying program. What we do have is some mechanisms that can track a phone number or an email address that is connected to a terrorist attack…That information is useful.” Read more at NBC News.

He is of course correct, and the difference is in orders of magnitude! This is even true in Israel which faces a far greater terrorist threat.
I feel better now
I am totally relieved!
As Nachash said to Chava if you eat this fruit you surely won’t die.
You are actually tens of thousands of times more likely to die in a car accident then in a terrorist attack.
If you take the Boston bombing, that was the only terrorist attack this year. I believe 3 people died there.
(please correct me if this was not the only terrorist attack on US soil)
34106 people died in car accidents in 2012.
Let us assume that there is no significant difference in 2013, that makes you about 10,000 times more likely to die in a car accident than in a terrorist attack!
If only they spent a much money on fighting bad driving as they do on fighting terror.
be prudent make sure your tires have enough air and then you won’t feel it at the pump this guy is one of a kind the stupidity that he gets away with is amazing
the odds of winning the powerball are even lower
Barry, you’re a real scream!

2009 May 31: Assassination of George Tiller kills 1
2009 June 1: Arkansas recruiting office shooting kills 1
2009 November 5: Fort Hood Shooting: kills 13
All this totals 3000 in the years 2001-2010
Even were we to assume that 9/11 is something that we have to expect (Chas Veshalom) and not a one off occurrence, This would mean that during those years, 399,000 more people died on the roads than in terror attacks.
Again thousands of times more likely to die in a car accident.
If we were to take 9/11 out of the equation, and assume that this was a one of, then only 34 people died of terror related incidents on US soil and 402,000 died in car accidents.
So buckle up, turn off your phone, and pay attention to the traffic. You’re in far more danger from someone driving while on a phone than from al Qaeda.
