After persuading the Supreme Court to allow chometz in hospitals over Pesach, liberal groups have appealed the court to force the army to do the same.

Four prominent rabbonim including former Rishon Letzion Rav Shlomo Amar issued a letter condemning the initiative. They noted that Pesach has been celebrated for 3,300 years and that the army has been chometz free since its founding 73 years ago.

  1. It is not clear in this article, but I suppose it means allowing soldiers to bring their own personal chometz to the army and while on duty and in a “friendly” gesture “ask” anyone around to take some. So i ask – what about soldiers on duty at or near a Moslem mosque (and how about Al Aqsa Mosque as an example) bringing their own private bacon?
