In a clash of Republican presidential candidates, Chris Christie took a stand against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s handling of the new slavery curriculum in Florida, accusing him of lacking leadership qualities. During an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan, Christie criticized DeSantis’s response to Vice President Harris, who had criticized Florida’s new Black history education standards, labeling them as “propaganda.” These guidelines were established based on Florida’s controversial law that mandates teaching about race in an “objective” manner without promoting any particular perspective.

The guidelines received significant backlash, particularly due to the requirement for teachers to educate students about how slaves developed skills that benefited them personally in some cases. Christie pointed out that Governor DeSantis initiated this situation with the bill he signed, but is now unwilling to take responsibility for the consequences.

“’I didn’t do it’ and “I’m not involved in it,’ are not the words of leadership,” Christie said.

Christie stated that DeSantis “starts these things for political advantage,” describing the move as “politically manipulative.”

“The fact is that, you know, if … this was such a big issue for Gov. DeSantis, he had four years to do this,” Christie averred. “He only started to focus on this when he decided he wanted to run for president and try to get to the right of Donald Trump.”

“We’re dividing our country into smaller and smaller and smaller pieces, and politicians are pitting them against each other to create conflict,” Christie said.

“Let’s talk about the failing test scores throughout the country that are making us less competitive with the rest of the world,” Christie said.

  1. Not sure why Christie’s begging for publicity constitutes news.

Suggestion: as long as a candidate doesn’t have 10% of his party’s support, just ignore him

  2. He’s going no where. But taking much needed oxygen from the real candidates. Florida’s governor seems to be sinking Grady gov but lacks aggressiveness needed to be president
