New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced a proposal Tuesday in New Hampshire to trim Social Security benefits for seniors with incomes of $80,000 or more.

The possible presidential candidate would go even further for people making more than $200,000 per year, cutting them off of Social Security benefits entirely.

“Washington is afraid to have an honest conversation about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid with the people of our country,” Christie said, according to prepared remarks. “I am not.” Read more at the Philadelphia Enquirer.

  1. All this would do is make money for the lawyers as the medicaid rules do. The high income senior would transfer his money – producing assets out of his name and get social security anyway. This is a wasted gesture not worthy of Christie.

  2. Is it even remotely fair for those who paid into the system for decades with the promise that they would be paid back upon retirement to suddenly be told “Sorry guys – we’ve decided not to pay you what we promised after all”?
