Speaking at a conference in Florida Monday, Gov. Chris Christie explained how he came to back Donald Trump’s Presidential bid following his own pull out in the Republican primary race last February.
“I sat down (Mary Pat Christie) and I said to her, ‘Donald Trump is going to be the next president of the United States. Because right now, anger trumps fear.’
“And that’s why, in the last week of February, I endorsed Donald Trump. People went berserk. I mean literally berserk. To me it was just a natural analysis of the situation. There’s anger and there’s fear. I think from being out there and campaigning for president for over a year, that anger was trumping fear. No pun intended. And that if that was the case and I was right, Donald Trump was going to be the next president of the United States.
“People say, ‘Why did you endorse Donald Trump?’ I endorsed him for the reason most people make those endorsements, which is you hope your presence can make your candidate better. Only history will judge whether I had any role in making him better.”
