Chuck Schumer could not let the moment pass without mentioning its Jewish history.
Georgia’s new senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, were sworn in on Wednesday, making Schumer the new Senate majority leader — the first-ever Jew in that powerful role.
Never afraid to reference his Yiddishkeit, Schumer recalled his roots in an address in the Senate chamber. And he got biblical, too.
“A kid from Brooklyn, the son of an exterminator and a housewife, a descendant of victims of the Holocaust. That I should be the leader of this new Senate majority is an awesome responsibility. Awesome in the biblical sense, as the angels that trembled in awe before God. Today I feel the full weight of that responsibility,” Schumer said.

Mr. Schumer has terrible character traits. When President Trump was inaugurated in 2017 Mr. Schumer refused to show up. That was a total lack of respect. It shows that he is a failed man and should not be in any leadership positions. Mr. Schumer has been supported by the taxpayers since 1981! Think about that. He is a real welfare cheat. Let him go out and get a real job like the rest of us.
I still remember him (as a congressman) coming to my Torah Vodaas elementary school graduation thirty five years ago.
Today he would never come to such a thing and would never be welcome either.
(He did manage to make a fool out of himself even back then by the graduation. He was loudly sounding off about how “on one side of the stage we have the American flag on the other side there is an Israeli flag…” until someone pointed out “um… look at the stage there is no Israeli flag” He quickly caught himself and said “well even without the flag I’m sure everyone body here is very pro Israel”
