Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Mike Pompeo reportedly met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah earlier this week.

The meeting between Pompeo and Abbas is the first high-level discussion between the Trump administration and the Palestinian leader.

According to Palestinian officials, the secret meeting was described as “warm and positive,” with the two sides reportedly discussing the two-state solution, security, Israeli settlement activity and the relationship between the Trump administration and the Palestinian leadership. Palestinian intelligence chief Majed Farji also reportedly attended the meeting, Ma’an News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the speaker of the United Kingdom’s Parliament, John Bercow, Palestine Liberation Organization Secretary-General Saeb Erekat said that the only alternative to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be a one-state solution, in response to reports that the Trump administration would not insist on a two-state solution during Wednesday’s meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Contrary to Netanyahu’s plan of one state and two systems, apartheid, the only alternative to two sovereign and democratic states on the 1967 border is one single secular and democratic state with equal rights for everyone, Christians, Muslims and Jews, on all of historic Palestine,” Erekat said. JNS.ORG
