White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has sharply criticized Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for suggesting that President Trump was partially responsible for the Delta Air Lines jet that crash-landed and overturned in Toronto, Canada.
Leavitt tore into the Democratic senator shortly after he appeared to link the Monday disaster involving Delta Airlines to the president’s recent reduction in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) workforce.
“It’s incredibly irresponsible for Chuck Schumer to say such a thing when the investigation is still underway,” the White House spokeswoman told Fox News’ “America Reports” late Tuesday.
“This crash unfortunately took place in Canadian airspace with Canadian air traffic controllers overseeing it,” she added.
Schumer had issued a series of tweets referring to the FAA cuts as he responded to news of the Delta aircraft bursting into flames and overturning after its landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday.
“I’m thankful that everyone in the flight incident in Toronto that took off from Minneapolis is safe, but we keep seeing these incidents day after day. Meanwhile, Trump’s doing massive layoffs at the FAA — including safety specialists — and making our skies less and less safe,” Schumer tweeted.
“To those asking whether it matters that the plane’s destination was in Canada: The flight took off from Minneapolis. The FAA was still responsible for inspecting the aviation equipment, and Trump just let go of FAA safety specialists,” he added.
Leavitt was quick to point out that Canadian air traffic controllers were in charge of directing the plane during its fiery crash landing, emphasizing that “no air traffic controllers have been let go” by the Trump administration.
“In fact, Secretary [Sean] Duffy has put great emphasis on hiring the best and the brightest air traffic controllers who want to be part of the FAA,” she continued.
She also took the opportunity to criticize the Biden administration for doing “nothing” to address aviation safety during the previous four years.
Her response to Schumer’s comments came as investigators continued to examine whether weather conditions, human error, or a mechanical failure might have contributed to the Delta incident.
Disturbing footage from the scene showed the aircraft hitting the ground with such force that its right wing was torn off as it skidded across the snow-covered runway.
The plane, which had originated in Minneapolis, then erupted in flames before flipping over.
Against the odds, all 80 people aboard the flight survived the harrowing ordeal.

Schumer, like Feinstein, McConnell, and Pelosi, is no longer amongst the living.
Schumer needs to keep talking. We must hear his opinions on every news item and everything Trump and his team are doing to fix America. The more he babbles, the bigger fool he makes himself. And the chances to vote this idiot out of public office go up. Keep talking Chucky.
