elliot-zaksThe Tri Town News reports: Elliot S. Zaks, a local commercial real estate executive, plans to bicycle 135 miles over two days in August to raise money for children who are battling serious illnesses.

Zaks, the director of operations of Madison Commercial Real Estate Services (MCRES), has set a goal of raising $15,000 with his sponsored bike ride so that three children with cancer can attend Camp Simcha, a medically supervised overnight summer camp in Glen Spey, N.Y.

According to a press release, every year Camp Simcha provides a full array of traditional camp activities, from archery to water activities, along with special events such as helicopter rides and concerts, to 430 seriously ill children.

A medical center, a medical team and specially trained counselors ensure that even children on chemotherapy can enjoy two weeks of uninterrupted fun.

The Bike4Chai bicycle ride will start on Aug. 3 in Lakewood and end on Aug. 4 with an entrance into Camp Simcha in Glen Spey. It has been organized by Chai Lifeline, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the non-medical needs of seriously ill children, their families and communities, according to the press release.

As Zaks noted, “This certainly won’t be an easy ride, but neither is life for a child with cancer and other serious illnesses. Camp Simcha offers these children an extraordinary summer experience of fun, friendship and lifelong memories. I hope to support this wonderful camp by encouraging people to co-sponsor the Bike4Chai bike ride.”

Zaks was one of the co-founders of Madison Title Agency, LLC and currently serves as the director of operations for the company and its parent company, Madison Commercial Real Estate Services. Based in Lakewood, MCRES is a family of related companies that offer specialty services for the commercial real estate market.

Zaks is also the director of Madison Learning Center, which offers pre-licensing and continued education courses within the title field as well as CLE- and CPE-approved courses in areas of commercial real estate to attorneys and CPAs.

Zaks is a commissioner for the Lakewood Housing Authority and he is a member of the Lakewood Zoning Board of Adjustment.
